What are Cystic Acne Cortisone Injections

Cortisone shots are used to help shrink enlarged and inflamed cyst acne. The treatment quickly reduces inflammation, flattening and healing the breakout in just a few days.

Cystic Acne Cortisone Injections Benefits

The cortisone helps reduce the swelling in the blemish relatively quick. You will notice that the blemishes injected with cortisone will appear softer, smaller, and flattened out. While they might not entirely vanish, they will become noticeably smaller or healed within a week after treatment. Cortisone shots have plenty of benefits, mainly helping big breakouts heal up quickly, but they can’t stop the formation of more breakouts.

How Cystic Acne Cortisone Injections works

A small amount of diluted cortisone solution is injected into the surface of the acne lesion/cyst. The smallest size needle gauge is used to prevent any further trauma to the spot being treated. Within a few hours of injection, the treated site should begin reducing in size. The procedure takes only a few minutes and results in a quick and significant reduction of inflammation, resulting in a much smaller and less noticeable pimple, ingrown hair, cyst or keloid scar.

FAQs

Cortisone shots are only for acne, cystic acne, keloid scars, and lesions. Acne pimples, and any type of breakout with a “white-head” cannot be treated with a cortisone shot. Only pimples that have no “head” and are cystic can be treated with cortisone. Cystic acne pimples normally take very long to heal on their own unless a cortisone shot is injected, which would shrink the inflammation very quickly. Also, ingrown hairs may receive cortisone injections to help release the trapped. It is advised against receiving cortisone shots for any type of blackhead, whitehead, very thin skin, or skin being treated with Retin-A or recent cosmetic procedures. Ideally, the area of concern should not have been recently treated with a previous cortisone shot, should not have been picked or have broken, bleeding skin before the procedure.

While it is unlikely and rare, if too much cortisone or multiple cortisone shots are injected into the same area of concern, a divot can occur giving a sunken appearance. If this does occur, it will resolve on its own within a few weeks to several months.

Expected results are within 24 hours of your treated. You will notice the treated area of concern has receded/shrunk to a completely flat effect within that 24-hour period.

It is advised that you wait a few hours and that you clean the area with normal face cleanser and cool water before applying makeup. Always wash your hands before applying make-up.
